Augmented Guitar playing [update]

Besides getting the technology working, I’ve spent some time organising thoughts about my goals for this project. Building a working prototype while documenting the process is the starting point. However, my ‘Tall Pole” will not be only creative or technical this time. I’d like to work on an article regarding my process and findings during this project.

My Personal Objective:

Define and follow a structured approach to develop and write about the research methodology to satisfy my initial hypothesis, in order to comply with academic journals publishing standards.

MVP

During the last two weeks I tested the technology, and had my MVP working. The electronic part is almost done, and the software interaction is known to work. So the MVP, for my newly defined goals would be the structure and initial contents for my article. Following the IMRD structures reviewed during the first session (and maybe adding the Literature Review in somewhere), this would be my initial structure, to be developed and filled during the next weeks.

Introduction

[abstract around my hypothesis and my findings]

Hypothesis
It is viable to register change in the gestures and posture of a guitar player’s right hand, in order to use that information to augment the musical experience.

Literature Review

Shall I add this?

Methodology

  • Create sensing hardware
  • Record and visualise user data
    • Compare against {speed, genre, mode [lead, rythm], skill, sound, etc }
  • Product design

Results

  • Pressure readings
  • Flex readings

Discussion

  • summarise in relation to the objectives
  • link to other research if found?
  • acknowledge context and limitations of the study, give credibility
  • discuss future opportunities
