Bio-Energy Parasite: Finger Parasite – Minimum Viable Product

IMG_5202

“Finger Parasite” is an idea that to harvest energy from finger motion, mainly for using mouse and typing.

For the minimum viable product, I tried to attach a flex sensor to and finger and use Precessing to generally measure the quantity of finger movement.

1. The expriments

Parts: 22k ohm resistor*1, SpectraSymbol flex sensor*1

The flex sensor is sensitive and not very accuracy.

2. The results

In the Processing sketch, the graph will be automatically saved when the data line reaches the edge. Below are some graphs:

line-4540 copy

line-4540 2

line-4540 3

The top number counts for the significant finger movement such as scroll the wheel on the mouth or typing. This number is calculated by the difference of sensor values grater than 20. The second line data is the time (in seconds) drawing each sketch. The test lasted for 1650 seconds without interruption. The total number of significant finger movement is 2463, so my index finger move 1.493 times per second.
